British painter Sarah Cunningham is missing in London.
Lisson Gallery, which represents Cunningham, posted on Instagram Sunday that Cunningham was last seen at 2:30 a.m. on November 2 on Jamestown Road in the city』s borough of Camden. Cunningham』s brother Anthony also posted on X that she was 「last seen leaving apartment building」 on that street and had been officially reported as missing.
In a statement to ARTnews, the gallery said it was made aware of Cunningham being missing on the afternoon of November 2 and 「wearing a black top, black skirt and black converse trainers.」
「We encourage anyone who might have seen or heard anything, or might have any information on Sarah』s whereabouts, to please urgently contact us or the London Metropolitan Police on 101. We are in touch with her family and the police (crime ref: 5483). We hope she is safe and welcome any information that can be shared to help.」
Missing posters for Cunningham also note she is 5』3″, 31 years old, and has a 「slim build」.
The London-based abstract artist pursued a BFA at Loughborough University, and received an M.A. in Painting from Royal College of Art in 2022, where she was also was a recipient of the Ali H. Alkazzi Scholarship Award. Cunningham also participated in the La Wayaka Current Artist Residency in Armila, a small city nestled in Panama』s Guna Yala province. Her oil paintings have been included in exhibitions in Aspen, Berlin, Los Angeles, New York, and Vancouver at Almine Rech, Max Hetzler, and the CICA Vancouver.
Cunningham had her first solo show with Lisson』s Los Angeles location this past summer. Her work was also shown as part of a group exhibition 「Accordion Fields」 at the gallery』s London location between February 23 and May 24. Her first solo show with the gallery, 「The Crystal Forest,」 opened last July.
